Sneak Peak from Foggy Mtn Melodies (pun fully intended)

Foggy Mountain Melodies, the newest album from Jack Sanner, will be a refreshing trip across acoustic trails of life's less traveled pathways (Gag, Cough, Snort!) Sorry, there, I just had a mental breakdown and thought I was some advertising executive for a minute. Don't worry, I'm feeling myself again.

Actually I am very happy with this project so far. So before the April 1 release I thought a few sneak peaks might be appropriate at this site. Today let's talk about hybrid songs.

Well, technically a hybrid song is often a rare thing today. But on this album I have decided to rewrite a classic bluegrass song (not that it really needed it) by adding a new chorus.

The song on the album is titled Long Journey Home. You may recognize the old song by that title or by the title Two Dollar Bill.

I lost all my money but a two dollar bill, boys, a two dollar bill.

The traditional song is a depression-era hobo song. It chronicles the life of the train-riding, shanty-living, hobos that traveled America in the 1930's looking for work. Most of these men would perform duties anywhere they could in order to send money home to provide for their families.

The new song takes this pilgrimage idea into a spiritual realm. Here are the lyrics to the chorus I added. See if you can tell what I mean.

Do you remember I said I was a pilgrim
On the day I learned this world was not my home?
I'm just passing through, but it's sure nice to be with you
On my long journey home.

The other (traditional) verses include such traveling hobo topics as watching for a train to ride and also looking out for the impending rain clouds.

But don't worry if you can't recall the original song, somewhere on the CD you will find a snippet of it, to refresh your memory.

T2UL8er (that's 'I'll talk to you later' in hip internet talk),
-Jack

PS: (big announcer's voice:) "Be on the look out for more in this exciting series of SNEAK PEAKS from Foggy Mountain Melodies!" (end of big crazy announcer's voice)
